Peter Watkins, Director
Prescient, frightening and unjustly unknown, Peter Watkins's seldom-screened satire presents a vision of an Orwellian future in which the government, business interests and the church use a British pop singer (played by one-time Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones) to control the country's youth. This was Watkins's first theatrical film, created during a media craze for "Swinging London" and costarring an icon of the era, supermodel Jean Shrimpton, in her only film role. "Brutal and offensive ... always brilliant" - Christian Science Monitor.
